Ms. Ruba Ajjour
Ms. Ruba Ajjour is the Manager of Climate Change Studies at the Water and Environment Center (WEC) and holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management. As a graduate Agricultural Engineer, she has devoted over 15 years of her career to advancing the local agriculture and environment sectors. Her professional journey has been marked by leadership in a variety of climate change-related projects, establishing her as a key figure in Jordan’s environmental landscape.
Ms. Ajjour was responsible for updating Jordan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), reflecting the country’s commitment to mitigating climate change. She also developed a comprehensive Guide for Climate Risk Management for small and medium water utilities. As the national team leader in the 2050 Pathways/Long-Term Low-Carbon and Climate Resilient Strategy (LTS) project, Ms. Ajjour played a pivotal role in setting a strategic roadmap for Jordan’s future climate resilience. Furthermore, she led the development of guidance notes to support Jordan’s participation in market mechanisms under the Paris Agreement, facilitating the implementation of domestic climate commitments.
Her contributions extend to coordinating the preparation of Jordan’s Second National Communication and the First Biennial Update Report (BUR) on Climate Change for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). She also led the preparation of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) mitigation chapter within Jordan’s Third National Communication. Additionally, Ms. Ajjour managed two significant adaptation projects funded by the Adaptation Fund, which focused on increasing the resilience of vulnerable communities to climate change impacts in the water and agriculture sectors.
One of her notable roles includes being the National Team Leader for the establishment of Jordan’s Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system in collaboration with the World Bank. Her expertise spans GHG inventory preparation, GHG mitigation analysis, climate change vulnerability assessments, and the implementation of MRV systems. Ms. Ajjour is also recognized for her efforts in promoting climate change awareness through community-focused programs.
